Airports all over the country have experienced a multitude of problems as passenger numbers surge since the turn of the new year.

Some experts predict that passenger levels in the upcoming summer months may match pre-pandemic levels, with the rise in passengers confirmed as Heathrow recorded their highest month passenger-wise in May since the pandemic.

The problems at various airports up and down the country have largely been attributed to staff shortages, as staff were axed during the pandemic to try and save money whilst travelling came to a complete halt.

Recently, a multitude of flights have been cancelled in the UK.

If your flight is cancelled, you may be entitled to a full refund.

Here are the cancellation policies of the biggest airlines to fly out of Stansted Airport.

Tui operates from multiple airports in the UK, such as Gatwick and Stansted.

They offer flights to some of the most popular holiday destinations such as Portugal, Tunisia, Turkey, Greece and more.

For flights that are delayed or cancelled for over three hours, Tui instructs passengers to talk to staff at the airport to see what your rights are in terms of compensation.

In addition, Tui says on their website that: ‘If we’ve cancelled your booking - for example due to a hotel closing or a flight cancellation - you won’t need to pay any fees’.

If your flight is cancelled, you will have a full refund within 14 days

One of the biggest airlines to fly from Stansted Airport is easyJet, as they offer flights to locations such as Amsterdam, Edinburgh and more.

Overall, easyJet has not cancelled that many flights lately, and aren’t seeing long delay times on many flights either.

Regarding their cancellation policy, they say: On the policy of the airline, the easyJet website says: “We may need to change our scheduled flight times or cancel, divert or delay certain flights for safety, operational or other reasons.

“If this happens, we’ll get in touch with you as soon as we can using the contact details you provided. If you booked through a third party (e.g. a travel agent), they may be responsible for contacting you.

“If we cancel your flight you can transfer to another available easyJet flight to the same (or a nearby) destination for free, or if you prefer you can get a full refund.

“Depending on the circumstances of any cancellation or delay, you may also be entitled to necessary overnight accommodation and/or compensation under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.”

Jet2 is a great option for a cheaper flight, offering flights to many popular tourist destinations in Europe such as Alicante, Ibiza and more.

On their website, they say: “If flights are cancelled by us and we aren’t able to offer a suitable alternative Jet2.com flight, we’ll refund you back to the payment card used to make the original booking.”

There is no information on how long the refund will take, but with most airlines the usual timeline is within around 14 days from when the refund is initially processed.
