UK arctic blast: Are any schools closed in London today as the UK drops to below sub-zero temperatures?

The Troll of Trondheim has started settling into British weather systems over the weekend, prompting flurries of snow across the country including areas of London. With temperatures plummeting below sub zero in many parts of the country this week, the question of whether schools will remain open in London is on many parents’ minds.

In the event of a school closure, individual establishments will usually contact parents directly to let them know and it is worth contacting your school directly if you are unsure of its current status.

However in the event that schools have yet to contact parents or last-minutes changes to the various London boroughs regarding school openings, the GOV.UK website advises parents to enter in their postcode to find their local authority and find school closure information one of the 32 borough’s website (included below.)

Reason for a school closure may range from hazardous conditions preventing teachers and pupils from reaching the classroom, technical issues a school may face that would provide poor working conditions for teachers and students alike (heating systems breaking down for example) or that there is not enough staff available to cover the amount of children present due to travel problems.

Londonworld has looked at the majority of London Borough Council websites in order to find out if any schools are closed. Both Londonworld and the local council’s do advise parents to check the school websites for latest information in the event of a drastic change in weather.
