A Chingford care home resident recently celebrated her 89th birthday in simply the best way – with a night out in the West End to see Tina – The Tina Turner Musical!

Hilda Collett, resident at Care UK’s Ivy Grove, on Hatch Lane, enjoyed the show alongside her daughter Elaine and two Ivy Grove team members – Senior Carer Pierce Gallagher and Carer Tina Hind – with whom she shares a close bond.

Hilda’s love for the stage runs deep. After the passing of her husband, she turned to performing – singing, dancing, and playing the accordion with the Melody Variety Club. She would often entertain at care homes and community venues, and to this day still loves to sing along, and share her favourite jokes with others.

As part of the memorable evening, Hilda also had the chance to meet cast member Jordan Louis Fernand and pose for a special photo to mark the occasion.

Hilda's visit was part of the Care UK Wishing Tree initiative, which encourages residents to put their wishes forward, allowing them to reconnect with a past hobby or try something completely new – from flying on a plane to enjoying a fish and chip supper, no wish is too big or small.

Jacob Mante, General Manager at Ivy Grove, said: “Hilda is a much-loved resident at Ivy Grove and always brings a smile to everyone’s faces with her energy, humour and passion for music. It was a pleasure to see her wish come true – and hearing how much she enjoyed the show was incredibly special for all of us.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ivy Grove provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, and the home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The layout of the building has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among residents, and the home has its own café and hair and beauty salon.
