Mayor of Wandsworth and Clapham Junction community help Scope celebrate first anniversary

Scope charity shop in Clapham Junction celebrated their first anniversary yesterday, with help from the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor, Sana Jafri.

Customers loved the celebrations and got into the party spirit, helping to raise over £300 from purchasing mystery bags, taking part in a treasure hunt and guessing the weight of a Christmas hamper.

Councillor Jafri said: “I was delighted to meet the team at Scope in Clapham Junction and help celebrate their first birthday in this wonderful community.

“As soon as I stepped through the door, I immediately noticed there was such a friendly atmosphere in the shop and I’m not surprised they’ve been such a hit with customers and the community alike.

“The work the team does to raise vital funds that help Scope support disabled people cannot be underestimated and I wish them many more happy years in Clapham Junction.”

Crisander Forbes, Shop Manager, Scope Clapham Junction said: “We were absolutely thrilled the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Sana Jafri helped us celebrate our first anniversary in Clapham Junction, it meant so much to our team to have her wonderful support.

“We had an incredible day with customers telling us how much fun they had. Our mystery bags with kind donations from Igloo Flowers and Palmer Fisher London hair salon went down so well we had to make more up throughout the day. One lucky winner, guessed the correct weight of the fabulous hamper kindly donated by Waitrose, so I’m sure they’ll have a very happy Christmas.

“Customers couldn’t believe our hourly £1 treasure hunt, which was a steal, as the total prize value was worth £130. One customer even returned every hour to see if they could find another bargain.

“Most importantly I’d like to thank our amazing community who helped us to raise over £300, but we’ve still got a few mystery bags left so I can’t wait to see the final total. Their generosity helps Scope to continue providing vital advice, guidance and emotional support for the 16 million disabled people in the UK.”
