Mayor of Bromley celebrates Secondary School’s National Careers Award

The Mayor of Bromley recently paid a visit to commemorate Bishop Justus CE School achieving the Quality in Careers Standard, a recognition of the school’s outstanding careers education and guidance.

The Quality in Careers Standard is the national quality award for careers education, information, advice, and guidance and is awarded to schools and education providers that can demonstrate the importance they place on careers.

The Standard, which is “strongly recommended” by the Department for Education, is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks for “Good Career Guidance” and is a recognition of the school’s excellent programme of careers education and guidance.

Bishop Justus CE School, part of the Aquinas CE Education Trust, had to demonstrate how they support their students to make positive decisions about their life after school.

The school was praised by the CSW Investor in Careers assessor for its commitment to providing outstanding provisions for career learning and preparing students for their future. The assessor stated there is “A strong Senior Management and Aquinas Advisory Council support and a whole school approach to CEIAG. A very committed, experienced and well-organised Guidance Manager/Careers Leader. A commitment to evaluation and continuous improvement.”

To support students, the school provides impartial and confidential careers education and guidance. By providing work-related learning activities and experiences and a careers programme that promotes equality of opportunity, inclusion and anti-racism, the school helps students develop an understand of different career pathways across numerous industries. Importantly, the school delivers information about all routes and pathways at post-14, post-16 and post-18.

This was the third time the school has been honoured with this national award, highlighting the school’s ethos to nurture the whole child and empower students to lead fulfilling lives. The Mayor of Bromley presented the award to Headteacher, Samantha Thompson, and commended the school for its commitment to providing students with a broad range of career and educational experiences that broaden their horizons and help them reach their full potential.
