There was a “lack of age and ability appropriate activities” for these young people in the area, so the volunteers of 3rd Kingsbury took matters into their own hands.

Hide AdPeter explains how “It is really satisfying helping some of our most socially excluded local young people come out of their shell and “have a go” together.”

One Explorer comments on how they “really enjoyed using compass directions and finding my way to a location.”
With Scouts, these Explorers have developed a range of Skills for Life including navigating, hiking, fire lighting alongside getting to develop their social skills and interactions with others in a safe and supportive environment.
One young person describes how it’s “great to spend time outdoors with people who get me!” and another says “it was really good to learn how to light a fire without using matches.” Creating a safe space for these young people will be invaluable for their personal development.

Volunteers are vital to providing these wonderful opportunities for all young people.
Chief Scout, Bear Grylls says: “Now more than ever, our young people need the confidence and encouragement that Scouting gives. Young people are amazing. They just need the opportunities and a friendly, safe and supportive place to discover their talents. That’s where we come in.”
This Summer, 3rd Kingsbury Explorer and Network group will be celebrating the Summer and an amazing start to their Scouting journeys with an exciting Summer Camp.
