Albert "Dixie" Dean, a former boxer and resident at HC-One's Aston House care home in Hillingdon, celebrated his 100th birthday on November 17.

Albert received an outpouring of love from across the United Kingdom, including over 100 cards from boxing clubs, care homes, and well-wishers from as far as Scotland and Ireland.

The centenarian's celebration was made possible through the efforts of the home’s activity team, who launched social media and newspaper appeals for birthday cards. The response was overwhelming, with a coach at Hayes ABC boxing club providing Albert with a laminated copy of his fighting records from his boxing days.

The highlight of the main event was a special visit by the Mayor of Hillingdon, who joined in the festivities, danced with guests, and received a warm and playful “I love you” from Albert himself.

HC-One care homes nationwide contributed to making Albert’s day memorable, sending handmade cards and thoughtful gifts, including boxing glove keychains and a commemorative '100 years' cushion cover.

The celebrations were crowned by the arrival of a special card from the Royal Family, which Albert treasured along with his collection of birthday wishes.

“Your compassion and professionalism mean so much, not just to our father but to all of us who have the privilege of seeing the love you put into your work. Your ability to make each resident feel valued and celebrated is truly remarkable.”

To further expressed his gratitude, he said: “Thank you again for going above and beyond to create such a memorable day for our dad and for all the kindness you show him every day. We are deeply grateful to have such wonderful people looking after him."

Lawra Baumane, HC-One's Wellbeing Manager, remarked: “A big round of applause to the Aston House team for making this milestone birthday unforgettable. At HC-One, life really begins when you move in, and who knows, maybe a future resident will be a wrestler!”
