Goresbrook School is celebrating as the Department for Education publishes its new, validated progress scores.

The results reveal that, with an impressive score of 0.87, the school is top of the table in Barking and Dagenham and in the top 150 schools in the country for Progress 8.

Progress 8 is a national measure which calculates the average progress students make by GCSE, compared with other similar schools. A progress score that meets the national average is set at 0 each year, with anything higher reflecting value added to a student’s achievements during their time at school.

With a score of 0.87, the school’s score is well above the national average of -0.03 and the local authority average of 0.24.

Megan Harris, principal at Goresbrook School, said: “It is hugely gratifying to be top of the table for Progress 8 in Barking and Dagenham and we are particularly pleased to have made it into the top 150 schools in the country for this measure.
