Magellan Explorers, based in Hounslow, meet on Wednesdays and are dedicated to giving young people the opportunity to develop Skills for Life. These Explorers (boys & girls aged 14-17) are drawing closer to their first-year anniversary and are reflecting on what an epic year it has been.

Scouts offer more than 200 activities to challenge young people and create opportunities. Highlights for Magellan Explorers include a Summer camp and Autumn Camp, with an upcoming Easter camp close by! They have taken on adventures in archery, tree top rope courses and air rifle target shooting. And developed a variety of skills including pioneering, safety and cooking.

Volunteer Mikey has “enjoyed myself just as much as the youngsters". One key project for them was participating and fund raising at the National Physics Laboratory Water Rocket Challenge.

The group are actively looking for young people who would like to broaden their horizons, take on new adventures & make amazing memories. But none of it could be done without the inspirational volunteers.

Group Leader Steve is so passionate about bringing opportunities to the Explorers, he has taken on an additional role as Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Leader so that young people in the unit can be supported through this exciting challenge.

Magellan Explorers work together to equip themselves with the Skills they need for their futures. For example, half of the young members are working towards their Young Leader Scheme, which gives young people the skills and knowledge to act as part of the section leadership team, and covers subjects such as a quality programme, Child Protection, First Aid and leadership skills. In a recent poll 94% of Scouts said they have developed useful skills.
