Jurgen Klopp controversy following Liverpool’s late winner against Spurs

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been heavily criticised for his reaction to his side’s late winner in Sunday’s Anfield clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs looked to have mounted a remarkable comeback to take a point from their visit to Merseyside after falling three goals behind within the first quarter of an hour as memories of last weekend’s nightmare start at Newcastle United came flooding back.

Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mo Salah all netted for the Reds and looked to have put them well on their way to a win - but Harry Kane reduced the arrears before half-time and gave his side a platform to build on after the restart. Heung-Min Son raised hopes when he netted with 12 minutes remaining and Richarlison’s last-minute strike seemed to have snatched a share of the spoils for his side.

But there was late heartbreak for Spurs when Lucas Moura’s misplaced pass allowed Diogo Jota to fire beyond Fraser Forster to give the points to the hosts - and that brought a furious reaction out of his manager as Reds boss Klopp roared at the Spurs bench as tensions rose between the coaching staff on both sides before turning his attention towards John Brooks. The former Borussia Dortmund manager vented his anger at the official before limping back towards his own technical area after seeming to pull his hamstring during the incident.

The result leaves Spurs sat nine points adrift of the Champions League places and they now sit in sixth place in the Premier League table after their hopes of returning to European football’s elite took yet another blow.
