Big blow: Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou handed nightmare scenario as another defender is ruled out

Tottenham have been handed another injury blow ahead of their game against Chelsea.

Tottenham will be without Ben Davies for the visit to Stamford Bridge after he picked up a calf injury according to a report on the Evening Standard.

The Welsh defender came into the starting eleven against Arsenal but has now picked up a calf problem that will keep him out for what is left of the campaign.

The 31-year-old is one of the leaders of the Spurs team and his absence now means Ange Postecoglou has to decide if he will move the rapid Mickey Van de Ven out wide or play Brazilian  Emerson Royal who has been deployed at both right and left back under Postecoglou.

Eight days ago, first-choice left-back Destiny Udogie confirmed he’d been forced to take surgery and will miss the rest of the season. Tottenham released a statement confirming the abrupt end of Udogie's campaign: "We can confirm that Destiny Udogie has undergone surgery to his left quadriceps, having sustained an injury in training earlier this week.

“The defender will continue his rehabilitation with our medical staff and is expected to rejoin the squad during pre-season.”

Double blow leaves Tottenham searching for answers

Davies is the second Tottenham player to be ruled out after forward Timo Werner picked up an injury against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal over the weekend. The German joined Spurs from RB Leipzig and scored two and assisted three in 13 games befor his injury.

There is little clarity over when Werner will return but he will not be involved at Stamford Bridge with Brennan Johnson now expected to come into the starting eleven for him.
