What Jackson did to Romero and why Mauricio Pochettino was screaming at Mudryk in Tottenham win

Chelsea produced one of their best performance under Mauricio Pochettino to beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino came out firing at his critics after doing the double over Tottenham and becoming only the first manager in Premier League history to have beaten Spurs home and away in the same campaign having previously been their manager.

For the first time since he took the Chelsea job in the summer, he showed signs of being under pressure and let his usual mask of calmness drop. Pochettino said when asked if he would be at Stamford next season: "Enough is enough. All managers need time to translate their ideas and philosophy. It's not my decision [if I get time]. I don't know [if I am being judged by the owners].”

He is right, the signs back him and his Chelsea team have lost only one of their last 17 games at home. The data suggest that they have been steadily improving and reached the final of the League Cup and also the semi-final of the FA Cup despite managing a long list of injured stars.

So on a night when Chelsea landed a devastating blow on Tottenham's Champions League ambitions and boosted their European quest, here are a few moments you might have missed from the game.

Pochettino shouting at Mykhailo Mudryk

Pochettino went absolutely mad at Mudryk just before Chelsea opened the scoring against Spurs. The Ukrainian had taken a defensive position as Conor Gallagher prepared to send in an in-swinger, the Chelsea manager screamed at Mudryk to swap positions with Moises Caicedo as he trusted in the Ecuadorian’s defensive capabilities in the event of a counter-attack than Mudryk.

Thankfully they swapped positions and fortunately, Chelsea scored from that setpiece.

Conor Gallagher yelling at Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer might be the star of the Chelsea team but that did not absolve him from the competitive brunt of Gallagher who had a few strong words with him to get him into a defensive position when Tottenham started the second half strongly. If there is one criticism of Palmer, it is that he loses the ball every now and then and Gallagher made sure he got back in check every time they were under attack.

Jackson leaving one on Cristian Romero

World Cup winner Romero is known by many as one of the toughest defenders in world football at the moment. He is the one who mostly intimidates strikers and makes it uncomfortable for them to play against him.

But last night Jackson instantly made sure he went through him in their first meeting with the Argentinian pointing to the spot where he tackled as if to say you kicked me there and I’ll kick you back. In the end, the Chelsea striker won the battle, reacting quickest to score and help his team to victory.

Thiago Silva is going to have an emotional exit

Silva is battling a groin injury and might not play again this season, but the final run of games at Stamford Bridge will be emotional for the Chelsea legend. Rarely has Stamford Bridge loved a player like they do to the Brazilian. Fans sang his name long and hard during the game against Spurs, so much so that he was forced to jump off his seat and acknowledge them while the game was ongoing.

The plan is to make him the captain of the final home game, but he’ll first have to recover from the injury that is threatening to keep him out of what is left of the campaign.
