Muslims injured after bottle attack outside mosque in East Ham during Ramadan

Muslims celebrating Ramadan were savagely attacked outside a mosque in East Ham by group of thugs armed with bottles and hockey sticks.

Police are investigating the incident as an alleged racially-aggravated assault, which left the worshippers injured.

Officers were called at 9pm on Tuesday evening after a group of thugs armed with bottles and hockey sticks attacked members going into the Masjid Bilal and Islamic Centre for iftar.

One suspect is said to have set alight some paper in a bin outside the mosque in Barking Road.

A number of people had minor injuries, but did not require treatment.

The Met Police said officers searched but found no trace of the suspects and no arrests have yet been made.

The force said it would carry out extra patrols in the area.
