The final episode of Aldi’s Next Big Thing on Channel 4 will feature the South West London based brand Granola Butter.

Granola Butter is the latest London brand to feature on Channel 4 in a bid to see their plant based spread stocked on Aldi’s shelves.

Founder of the brand Laura Barton, 30, who hails from the south west of the capital will showcase her granola flavoured spread on Aldi’s Next Big Thing, airing on Tuesday (May 7), for a contract to supply the supermarket chain.

The idea for the product which Laura describes as “a magical sweet and salty spread that has the texture of peanut butter with the flavour of granola” followed her desire to create a sustainable product that delivered both quality and flavour.

Granola Butter is a plant-based, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, high fibre, and no palm oil product and is sourced from ingredients from local British farmers and manufacturers across the UK as well as imported ingredients that cannot be grown in the UK or  have no direct British substitute.

Speaking ahead of Granola Butter’s feature on the upcoming Aldi’s Next Big Thing show, Laura said: “My product is new to the UK market. It has the texture of peanut butter, but it's made with granola instead of nuts and contains 70% less sugar. It’s an ideal product for people that have nut allergies and are looking for alternatives to nutty spreads.”

The entrepreneur will present their products to Julie Ashfield, Aldi UK’s managing director of buying, and the show's hosts, broadcaster and author Anita Rani and Chris Bavin, of the BBC’s The One Show and Eat Well for Less.

The winning contestant's product will appear as a Specialbuy in more than 1,000 stores.

Aldi described the competition as part of its ongoing commitment to support British suppliers.

Last year, Aldi said it spent an additional £1.3 billion with British suppliers and growers, and that they provide more than three quarters of all items sold in its stores.

Aldi’s Next Big Thing airs on Channel 4 every Tuesday at 8pm until May 7.
